Case Study #2 for Thermal Probe Maintenance and Installation
Thermal Probe Maintenance
A nuclear utility operates a cooling system thermal model that provides real time temperature data from various remote locations in the cooling system. The model is used to forecast temperature conditions in the cooling systems. Equipment malfunctions that occur during hot weather periods must be expeditiously addressed so the plant can verify that it has not exceeded water discharge temperature criteria established by the government.
Failed hardware must be repaired or replaced. Emergency repairs must be initiated within 24 hours of notification. Difficulties with equipment may be related to hardware, software or communications issues. Communications with the remote sites is accomplished via modem using cellular service.
Murray and Trettel’s Field Services staff calibrates each thermal probe on a monthly basis to verify that the thermal probe system is operating optimally. We work closely with the cellular provider to insure communications allow access to real-time data.
